Considering The Reasons That Universities Are Opting For Contract Furniture For Student Union Bars

Student union bars, often referred to as SU bars, have historically been fairly drab places. However, many universities have looked to upgrade their SU bars in recent years as the importance that potential students place on social life has hit home. As a result many universities have looked to invest in contract furniture.

Increasing budgets

The budget of many SU bars has increased dramatically as universities look to modernise them. This has seen SU bars at some universities grow from the size of an average pub to the scale of a large nightclub, even having different levels. It is important that the right furniture is purchased to ensure that these fantastic venues are given the finishing touches that they deserve.

A change of scene

The majority of people will consider contract furniture to be more in keeping with environments such as hospitals and care homes. Yet the kind of items that are produced by contract furniture manufactures are suitable for use in pub and club environments. Forward thinking universities have recognised that choosing this route for their SU bar furniture is a great way of securing quality furniture that will stand up to the everyday rigours of university life.

A one provider solution

Not only do contract furniture manufacturers offer stools to go in bar areas, they also provide more comfortable seating such as sofas and armchairs. As a result universities are able to buy furniture for the lounging areas and bar areas from the same provider, meaning a saving on cost.

Social Impact

On the whole, the improvement of SU bars and the role of contract furniture in it has meant a real change in the behaviour of students. Previously SU bars were used as a place for students to meet up and have a drink or two before they went elsewhere – now they tend to spend the whole of the night in them.
