Choosing Bedding For Your Child As They Leave For University
For most students that are moving away from home to attend university it will be the first time in their lives that they will be truly independent. The realisation for parents that their child is leaving and may never return to live in the family home again can be daunting. In these circumstance parents try to ensure that their kids have everything that need to come through the pitfalls of student living. This article looks at the bedding items that parents can supply their children with, so that when they do finally make it to bed, they will have a decent night’s kip.
Completing the bed
Whether your child is spending their first year in the halls of residence or privately rented accommodation, the bed and mattress will usually be provided. To complete the bed you should buy them a couple of pillows and a duvet. Make sure that you pick an all weather duvet; one that has a thin and a thick duvet that can be clipped together and offers the right thickness all year round.
Living in student accommodation can be notoriously problematic, with heating on the blink and lack of funds to pay the bills! So you may want to also buy an extra blanket; just in case they need it in the winter months.
Choosing the linen
In addition you should invest in a duvet set for them – preferably one with an elasticated bottom sheet, as they probably aren’t too good at changing bedding. Most importantly, remember to get them a mattress protector. This will offer both extra comfort and guard against any dust mites living in the mattress.
Picking a colour scheme and design
The chances are that your child will not wash their bedding as frequently as you would were they still living at home. So stay away from light coloured bedding that will show every mark and go for something that is a little darker and preferably has a hectic design.
