Geology of North-West Borneo

$215

The book is a comprehensive compilation of all aspects of the geology of Northwest Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei and Sabah) and the contiguous South China and Sulu Seas. The sedimentary formations are described, their palaeontology tabulated and ages discussed. Stratigraphic charts illustrate their relationships across the whole region. Detailed geological maps of selected areas are accompanied by cross sections based on outcrop patterns and drilling and seismic data offshore. Palaeocurrent maps are presented and the palaeogeography for different ages described and sedimentary provenance discussed. Descriptions of the ophiolite sequences, volcanic and plutonic rocks are accompanied by tables of selected chemical analyses and geochemical plots and their tectonic significance discussed. All radiometric data are tabulated and discussed. Regional structures and the predominantly Tertiary tectonics are described. In Sarawak the mountains are constructed of Upper Cretaceous to Lower Eocene greenschist facies shaly turbiditic Rajang Group, uplifted before the end of the Eocene. In Sabah the Western Cordillera is constructed of Eocene to Lower Miocene sandy turbidite uplifted in the Late Miocene and Pliocene. Miocene intrusion of Mount Kinabalu and uplift of the Cordillera is related to collision at the Northwest Borneo Trough. Gold, antimony, mercury and copper deposits are described and the tectonic setting of oil and gas deposits discussed. * Correlation tables, descriptions and ages of all major sedimentary formations of Sarawak, Brunei and Sabah * Petrology, geochemistry and ages of all volcanic and plutonic formations of North West Borneo and their tectonic significance * Economic geology including the geological setting of offshore oil and gas deposits

Places To Visit In And Around Chippenham, North Wiltshire

Chippenham (Saxon for ‘River Meadow’) is the largest town in North Wiltshire. It is an interesting town with old coaching inns and half timbered houses and it is great for cycling or walking along the River Avon. Relax in the attractive park or explore what the town has to offer.

The town’s museum shows exhibits of Chippenham from its corn and cloth industry and is worth a visit if you are interested in the history of areas you visit. If you are more interested in your own history, you can visit the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre to access their archives for exploring your family ancestry.

The Western Arches are an interesting hang over from the industrial age. They were designed by Brunel for the Great Western Railway. If industrial history is your thing, see also the oldest condensed milk facory in the world – Avonbridge House, and the Francis Holland tobacco factory.

Street markets are held on Fridays and Saturdays in The Shambles and the Farmers Market is on the second Tuesday of every month. Look out for bargains and local produce and crafts.

Near the market is the old Butter Cross and 16th century Yelde Hall (it is now the tourist information office) where you can see the original council chamber. Also nearby is Neeld Hall where corn and cheese used to be sold.

Chippenham boasts a famous and friendly folk festival that attracts top names and is hugely popular. The town really comes alive and pulls in lots of music lovers.

Not far from Chippenham are Biddestone, Castle Combe, and Lacock that are all beautiful villages worth seeing if you have time. There’s also Bowood House and gardens and Lackham Country Park just over 15 minutes away.

Chippenham is a lovely town to visit if you are in the North Wiltshire area and visitors will not be disappointed. Only 75 minutes by train from London and 12 from Bath it’s easily accessible to.

If you are looking for what’s on in Wiltshire, try a trip to the interesting town of Chippenham Wiltshire.

For a longer stay in Wiltshire, you could find a Salisbury hotel and and visit the medieval city. It is not far from Chippenham and worth the trip if you can.
