Government Wishes Home Price Stability
Housing minister Grant Shapps has announced that he’s looking for a modern of home price stability, following some years of volatility.
Shapps suggests that encouraging developers to build more homes is an excellent method to promote stability, following the enormous increases in value because the late 1990s.
“This government completely supports peoples’ aspirations to own a house,” said Shapps. “But we also think that property should be primarily looked at as a location to become your home.”
He wants people to look at investments to provide security in senior years, rather than to rely on housing, stating that the decade between 1997 and 2007 would be a ‘crazy period’ that had left younger people struggling to afford their very own house.
“It is horrendous that the first time buyer would need to be 36 on average if they do not have the support of mum and dad,” he said. “The main thing everybody requires for his or her subsistence is really a roof over their scalp so when that fundamental human want becomes too costly for average citizens to afford, some thing has run out of kilter. I believe the reply is home price stability.”
Shapps want to see houses increasing by less than earnings, thereby becoming more affordable.
