The Republic $4.99 There is a well-known saying that the whole of Western Philosophy is footnotes of Plato. This is because his writings have set the schema that philosophy can be said to have followed ever since. Following under the teachings of Socrates, Plato’s works are among the world’s greatest literature. The Republic is the centre around which the other Dialogues may be grouped; here philosophy reaches the highest point to which ancient thinkers ever attained. Plato among the Greeks, like Bacon among the moderns, was the first who conceived a method of knowledge, although neither of them always distinguished the bare outline or form from the substance of truth; and both of them had to be content with an abstraction of science which was not yet realized. He was the greatest metaphysical genius whom the world has seen; and in him, more than in any other ancient thinker, the germs of future knowledge are contained. |

As Silvio Berlusconi Grapples With The Best Crisis The Italian Republic Has Ever Seen, AN Affiliate Of His Extended Family Has Gone On A Long Retreat To Medjugorje.
As Silvio Berlusconi grapples with the best crisis the Italian republic has seen, a member of his extended family has gone on a long retreat to Medjugorje. Ania Goledzinowska, the Polish girlfriend of Paolo Enrico Beretta, the Italian prime minister’s nephew (he is the son of Silvio Berlusconi’s late sister, Maria Antonietta), has moved to the town in Bosnia and Herzegovina to carry on a life of prayer.
How did you finish up in Medjugorje?
The 1st time I was invited by a mate who also paid for the trip. I had a kind of an allergy for monks and the Church. But that first trip made my life different, so much so that for the following two years I was not able any longer to live serenely, because I realized that I had never been really happy in my whole life. What I was living was an illusion, not true happiness. I became depressed. I had a privileged life that I do not liked. Instead , I wanted easy, ordinary things. One morning I woke up, called a friend and asked him to find me a place to remain in Medjugorje or I would have jumped out of the window. I left Italy with two bags without telling anybody. And here I am.
How long have you been in Medjugorje and when are you going to come back to Italy?
I’ve been here just about 3 months. In fact my first thought was to come here purely for one or two days, because on June twenty-five I should have started a PR job in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, at the multi-millionaire Flavio Briatore’s club. But June twenty-five was also the 30th anniversary of the apparitions in Medjugorje. After five days here I ended the contract and have chosen to remain. I’m in a Marian community and I live with monks and nuns.
How do you spend your day?
I awaken at five in the morning. We climb the mountain Podbrdo to recite a rosary, then we go down, we have requests, then Holy Mass. Until 12 pm we’re employed. I clean the rooms and toilets, then I do the ironing, or peel potatoes. We also have a plant garden and chickens. After that we recite another rosary. In the afternoon we rest, then at six there are other requests.
You are spending the summer in a place of prayer, far enough away from everything and everybody. Don’t you miss Formentera, Sardinia and other places such as that?
Definitely not. Many of my old pals can’t understand what I am doing. They do not understand how I’ll be content doing what perhaps my cleaning woman did before. In fact , I think That I have never been so satisfied. I feel a bit like when I used to be a kid, when I was tiny and I lived with my poor and straightforward family. Everything
I do makes me feel satisfied. I feel adored by God and by those around me, without having to disguise myself by what I have never been. I know that folk are close to me for who I actually am, not for profit . I left everything. I get dressed with the “clothes of Providence”, which infrequently the travellers leave here, because my clothes did not slot in Medjugorje. I couldn’t come here wearing Chanel shoes
What was the reaction of your man, Paolo Enrico Beretta?
At first he was startled. For nearly two weeks he didn’t know where I was. We met again four weeks later, when I returned to Milan to cancel the lease of the house and to sell the car : I chose to move permanently to Medjugorje. We met, we chatted a lot and he accepted my choices. He told me that he respects them and that he will always and in any case be close to me till I will be ready to come back. And he knows very well this can occur in a year as in 4. Meanwhile, he is getting ready to visit me. Now I do what the Lord wants from me. If the Lord wants me to come back, I shall come back to Italy. But I do not think this can occur in the near future.
In the newspapers we read that you’ve chosen chastity. Again, one would wonder whether your boyfriend welcomed your choice.
He is perhaps the only man who has always respected me. We have had a pure relationship, even though we’ve known each other for three years. Maybe that’s why our relationship is so deep. I made up my mind to create an association “pure hearts” for those who have selected to live in chastity until wedding, respecting God and themselves. As a sign recognition there are numbered rings for all members.
Why do so many people in the Italian showbusiness world go to Medjugorje?
I do not know. Some do it for advertising, but there are those that truly need to get answers. At the end we are all folk, and papers usually don’t tell stories about regular folk. I believe that today’s world urges us to seek the truth, because we are living in a false reality.
Where did your story begin?
It’s a long story and I have written about it in the book Con occhi di bambina (“Through the eyes of a child”). It starts when I used to be a little princess who dreamed of a castle and of her prince, but I found myself kicked out of the enchanted castle when I was four years in age. I had to grapple with insincere folks, harassment, abuse, drugs and much else besides.
It’s let slip that in 2008, wearing simply a bikini, you came out of a cake given to prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and sang “Happy birthday” to him. After Medjugorje would you do that again?
After Medjugorje I wouldn’t do many things, but I do not regret anything. I had to live the good and the bad things of my past in order to give sworn statement today that you can change, that real life is something else. Jesus came and died for sinners, not for healthy folk. I’m the first of sinners. I do not want to lose the right of enjoying the mercy of the Lord.
From parties, perhaps with cocaine, to Our Lady Do you believe that you want to escape from the world?
I’ve had nada to do with substances for roughly six years. I don’t want to escape from the world, I know that the genuine battle is out in everyday life. But first I have to heal my soul to help others, to battle in the battleground for the only true King, who is God.
From Medjugorje what are you wanting to tell our readers?
3 things : love, pardon and don’t judge. Just as you need to be forgiven, also others have the right to a second chance. Excuse, but don’t do it for others : do it for yourself. You must empty the loathing and the resentment that you hold in your heart. Only then can God work in you. Otherwise he has nowhere to put the graces that he has reserved. If you decide to come to Medjugorje don’t expect to see the sun spinning or other miracles. The genuine miracle is your exit. Our Lady will take care of all the rest, writes tagza.com.
